A menu bar screenshot tool for macOS. Everything stays on your Mac.
Snaplace lives in the menu bar. After you open it for the first time, nothing appears on screen and nothing appears in the Dock — look for the Snaplace icon at the top right of your screen, near the clock. That is the whole app: click it for the menu.
macOS requires permission before any app can capture the screen, and it requires the app to be restarted before the permission takes effect. This trips up almost everyone.
If captures come back black or empty, this is nearly always the missing relaunch.

All five are in Settings → Shortcuts if you want different ones. If another app already owns a shortcut, Snaplace tells you rather than failing silently — every command is also in the menu bar menu.
Files you save go to ~/Pictures/Snaplace unless you pick somewhere else in
Settings → General. You only pick once; the choice survives restarts.
Separately, every capture is kept in Capture History so you can find it again — including ones you only copied to the clipboard. That history is a working cache: by default Snaplace deletes captures older than 30 days and keeps at most 500, whichever comes first. Both limits can be changed in Settings → History, and either can be switched off. Screenshots you saved yourself are in your own folder and are never deleted.
Press ⌃⇧5, frame the region you want, then scroll it yourself — Snaplace watches and stitches. It sends no scroll events of its own and needs no Accessibility permission, so it works in windows that refuse to be scrolled by other software. Scroll smoothly and let each screenful settle for a moment.
Does Snaplace send my screenshots anywhere? No. Snaplace contains no networking code at all. See the privacy policy.
Does text recognition need the internet? No. It runs on your Mac through Apple's Vision framework.
Is there a subscription? No. Snaplace is a one-time purchase.
Which Macs does it run on? macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on both Apple Silicon and Intel.
